A story of the origin of Dekayama - 'Syuken' fights with three evil apes.-

Long long ago, Nanao is a small village. Persons who lived in worked on agriculture and fishing mainly. Day by day, they spent most of the time quietly. Because of this tired days, they desired to have a festival on May. When villagers started to prepare for festival with delight, Kyubei was botherd and made sad. He should make his daughter be a sacrifice of evil spirit. He considered that "Why the god require sacrifice ? I'll try to beg to stop this custom.". From this day, "Kyubei" went to worship everyday.

One day, "Kyubei" heard the word of evil spilit from the shrine. "Thanks to stupid humen, I could eat a young human girl. But I should espace from Syuken lives in Echigo. I couldn't win to him." On this day, Kyubei departed for seeking Syuken. For many days Kyubei visited some places, however, he couldn't find out Syuken. Finally, the festival will be had on the next day. Kyubei screamed "Syuken! Syuken! please appear and help my daughter!"

On this time, Kyubei heard the voice. "Who call my name?"
Syuken who has a white body appeard. Kyubei told him the story in Nanao. Syuken said "I understand completely. Long ago, 3 ape spilits come over sea. They use their magic power for crimes. Because of their evil, I defeated two of them. For a long time I seek the last one ape. Ok, let's take me to your home!" Kyubei answerd with crying, "Unfortunately the ceremony will be had tomorrow. We should costs some days to reach to Nanao." "Don't mind the distance." Syuken saied and take Kyubei. Syuken flied to Nanao with the wind speed.

When Syuken arrived at Nanao, he weard a girl's clothes and waited evil ape spilit in a box. Some hours were passed. There were quite silence. At the time the evil ape spilit came. "Fu fu fu, thanks for stupids. I could eat a young girl on this year!", the ape said. Just on this time, the box opened and Syuken appeared. "I waited this time. Are you ready to die?" "You are Syuken! Why are you here? How you could find me? I should fight with you!".

Soonly, the fight began. During this battle trees were broken down in this area, thunders and a hurricane are occurred. How long this battle continued? Next morning villagers had a quiet time. They went to the battle place and found a large ape and wolf were dead. They understood the Syuken was a wolf. Villagers thanked to the wolf "Syuken". In order to avoid the curse, they made three pageants and dedicated them to the shrine.
